Sec. 50-63. - Discharge of firearms generally.

(a) The following limitations on the discharge of firearms shall apply to the area of the city from its western border to its eastern border between I-96 and Lake Michigan Drive, and the area between Lake Michigan Drive and O'Brien Road from Wilson Avenue (M-11) to Sunset Hills Avenue:

(1) No firearm shall be discharged at any time except as provided in subsection (2) below.

(2) A shotgun may discharge a slug load as long as a valid crop damage block permit or a deer damage control permit has been obtained from the state department of natural resources prior to the discharge. If a valid permit has been obtained, the shotgun slug load discharge must occur at least 500 feet from any building and at least 300 feet from any public roadway.

(b) The following are limitations on the discharge of firearms in all areas of the city not described in subsection (a):

(1) No firearm, except a shotgun loaded with no shot or projectile larger than no. 6 chilled shot, shall be discharged at any time, except when properly discharged on a firing range for which a permit has been issued. Such allowable shotgun discharges shall not be executed within 500 feet of any building or within 300 feet of any public roadway. No shotgun shall be loaded in such a way as to make a single projectile or slug out of the loose shot contained in any ordinary shotgun shell. 

(2) However, a slug load shall be permitted in a shotgun when a person is hunting deer during an open season for the taking of deer pursuant to a valid deer hunting license and in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances, or, pursuant to a valid deer damage control permit issued by the state department of natural resources pursuant to sections 5.40 through 5.43 of the Wildlife Conservation Act Commission Order. The discharge of a shotgun with a slug load must occur at least 500 feet from any building and at least 300 feet from any public roadway.
